Basalts are the most mined material in the world. Basalts are a component of composite materials such as concrete and asphalt concrete; the Basalt serves as reinforcement to add strength to the overall composite material.

However, natural deposits of Basalt are very limited in nature world. Most Basalt are obtained from the crushed large rock, gravel, sand or other materials.
